Hello

I am a Writer, Story Consultant and Producer with 25 years experience in the television industry.

I am passionate about story - creating it, breaking it, deconstructing it and helping others develop it.

About me

I was incredibly privileged to begin my career as a storyline writer on Coronation St back in 1999. Privileged not only because it was a hugely loved show, but also because in my very first job I found myself in the writer’s room, which is the single best place to be.

I loved it then and all these years later, I still love it. Given the choice, you’ll not find me far from a gaggle of writers breaking story together, with all the blood, sweat and laughter that comes with it.

I had thought I only wanted to be a writer, but I found I thrived on leading a writing team and a creative vision. And this lead me down a producing route, with my first producing gig being Series Producer of Emmerdale. During my time as Series Producer we broke new ground in online storytelling with the award winning Who Killed Tom King online extension, in collaboration with Hoodlum.

After some years of various producing and story gigs, I was asked to be a consultant for Singapore’s main broadcaster MediaCorp on their first long form English multiracial drama, Tanglin. I advised on the production and set up MediaCorp’s first story office system, whilst co-creating the show. I then stayed on as Supervising Producer to run the story department and train upcoming writers, to bring on a new generation of Singaporean voices. Tanglin and its successors Kin and Sunny Side Up have been hugely successful.

My strengths as a Producer and Story Consultant are my story skills - originating, editing and steering story - and my managerial ability to get the best from the creatives on my team. I lead with empathy, clarity of vision and passion. I firmly believe we are at our creative best when we feel supported, feel able to ‘play’ and share the same goals.

I am strong in a crisis and have been a trouble shooter on a number of shows that needed on and off screen restructuring. Each time the ratings were doubled, and the system stabilised with strong teams left in place.

As a writer I am a creative and safe pair of hands. Years of working in high volume story departments have given me a robust approach to notes, and an agility of thinking and ideas generation - there is always another “What if…?” up my sleeve.
